What 70-200mm at f/4 actually gives you
70-200mm is a short-telephoto framing: tight enough to isolate a subject, wide enough to keep some context.
f/4 is a moderate maximum aperture. There is less low-light headroom and less background blur than an f/2.8 lens gives, which is generally the trade for lower weight and cost.
Size and filters
At 985g (2.17 lb) it has real presence on the front of a camera, though it stays hand-holdable for a session. A tripod collar is included, which moves the mounting point to the lens's centre of mass rather than hanging the weight off the camera's tripod thread.
