The Best Lenses for the Fujifilm X-T5
The X-T5 is a 40.2MP APS-C camera, so two numbers matter for every lens: the full-frame-equivalent focal length (what the lens actually frames on this body) and what it adds to a 557g (1.23 lb) camera. Start with the kit-lens question, then add what your photography needs.
We haven't shot with these lenses for this guide, so we don't rate sharpness or autofocus ourselves. Picks are made on published specifications. Where this page talks about resolution, it quotes Fujifilm's own 40MP lens list and says so. Some links go to Amazon; as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Quick picks
"Fujifilm 40MP list" is explained below. "Newer than list" means the lens came out after Fujifilm published it in 2022, so it could not be on it — not that it was left off.
What the X-T5 itself changes about lens choice
It is a dial camera, so the aperture ring matters
Fujifilm describes the X-T5 as having "three dials [that] control ISO, shutter speed, and exposure compensation", and says that "together with the aperture ring on most XF lenses, all exposure settings can be checked and adjusted before powering on the camera." In Fujifilm's lens names, an R marks a lens with that aperture ring. Of the 67 autofocus X-mount lenses in our data, 43 have one. Lenses without it — such as the Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR, or Sigma's DC DN lenses, whose spec pages don't list one — still work; you set the aperture with a command dial instead. If you bought the X-T5 for its dials, the tables below show which lenses keep that workflow.
557g (1.23 lb), and a shallow grip
The body weighs 557g (1.23 lb) with battery and card. Fujifilm sells an optional metal hand grip, the MHG-XT5, which it says "substantially improves the ability to handhold the camera". Among the lenses in this guide, the XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR, XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR, XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR, XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR and XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR weigh as much as the body or more — the combinations where a better grip helps most.
Stabilisation is in the body, for every lens
The X-T5 has five-axis in-body stabilisation rated at up to 7.0 stops (CIPA, measured by Fujifilm with the XF35mmF1.4 R mounted). Every lens on this page is stabilised by the body; lens OIS is an addition, not a requirement.

Which lens to buy with the X-T5
The X-T5 is commonly sold as a kit with the XF18-55mm or the XF16-80mm, and some retailers bundle the newer XF16-50mm. If you are deciding now, these are the realistic options for a first lens — the three kit zooms, and the two constant-f/2.8 zooms people upgrade to.

- Lightest: the Fujifilm XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR at 240g (8.5 oz), weather-sealed, starting wider (24mm equivalent) than the 18-55mm (27mm).
- Most range: the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR covers 24–122mm at a constant f/4, weather-sealed, with optical stabilisation.
- Brighter at the long end: the Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS is f/2.8–4 against the 16-50mm's f/2.8–4.8 (per their names), and has optical stabilisation.
- Constant f/2.8 on a budget: the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary (Fuji X) is 285g (10.1 oz) and $599, with 0.36× close-up magnification.
The X-T5 has in-body stabilisation, so a lens without OIS is still stabilised. Lens OIS matters less here than on bodies without it.
Is a kit lens good enough for 40MP?
It is the most common worry in X-T5 forums. What can be said from Fujifilm's side: neither the Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS nor the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR is on Fujifilm's 2022 list of lenses that resolve the 40MP sensor edge to edge at maximum aperture, and the Fujifilm XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR came out after the list. Fujifilm also says lenses not on the list still benefit from the higher resolution. If edge-to-edge resolution wide open matters to you, the listed zooms are the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR, the Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR and the Fujifilm XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR; see the full list.
What each pick adds to the X-T5
The body weighs 557g (1.23 lb) with battery and card. Two of Fujifilm's pro zooms are included for scale: the Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR weighs 1.8× the body on its own.

Best everyday zoom: Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II
16–55mm (24–84mm equiv.)f/2.8410g (14.5 oz)95mm (3.7 in) long$1,199Newer than Fujifilm's 2022 list
On the X-T5: 967g (2.13 lb)
24–84mm at a constant f/2.8, 410g (14.5 oz), weather-sealed, 95mm (3.7 in) long. It is 37% lighter than the original Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR it replaces, which weighs 655g (1.44 lb).
Why this one: it is the lightest Fujifilm constant-f/2.8 standard zoom in our data, and the original 16-55mm is on Fujifilm's 2022 40MP list; this version came out in 2024, after the list. The trade-off is price: $1,199, against $599 for the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8, which is 125g (4.4 oz) lighter but starts at 18mm instead of 16mm.
Want more reach at f/2.8? The Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Fuji X) covers 26–107mm for $799 at 525g (1.16 lb).

Our pick is the Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR: 41mm equivalent, 84g (3.0 oz), weather-sealed, and on Fujifilm's 40MP list. If you prefer the classic 35mm-equivalent view, the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR is the same idea at 35mm: 90g (3.2 oz), $499. The TTArtisan AF 27mm f/2.8 (Fujifilm X) is the budget option at $99.
Best everyday fast prime: Fujifilm XF 33mm f/1.4 R LM WR

On the X-T5: 917g (2.02 lb)
50mm equivalent — the "normal" view — at f/1.4, 360g (12.7 oz), weather-sealed. A wide aperture gathers more light and gives a shallower depth of field than the f/4 kit zoom: three stops more light.

On the X-T5: 1002g (2.21 lb)
85mm equivalent at f/1.2, 445g (15.7 oz), weather-sealed. The longer focal length lets you stand back for a head-and-shoulders frame, and the wide aperture separates the subject from the background.

- Budget: the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary (Fuji X) is $449 and 165g (5.8 oz) lighter, half a stop slower (f/1.4 vs f/1.2).
- Lightest: the Viltrox AF 56mm f/1.7 AIR XF at 160g (5.6 oz) and $199.
- Longer: the Fujifilm XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR frames like 137mm — tighter headshots from further back.
Best wide-angle zoom: Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary (Fuji X)

10–18mm (15–27mm equiv.)f/2.8250g (8.8 oz)64.3mm (2.5 in) long$699
On the X-T5: 807g (1.78 lb)
15–27mm equivalent at a constant f/2.8, 250g (8.8 oz) and $699. Against the Fujifilm XF 10-24mm f/4 R OIS WR it is 160g (5.6 oz) lighter, $300 cheaper and one stop brighter — but the Fujifilm reaches 37mm and has optical stabilisation.
| Lens | Full-frame equiv. | Aperture | Weight | Filter | Aperture ring | Lens OIS | Price |

| Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR | 12–24mm | f/2.8 | 805g (1.77 lb) | — | Yes | — | $1,999 |
For landscape work with screw-in filters, the filter size matters as much as the focal length: the table shows each lens's thread where we have it. Wider still: the Fujifilm XF 8-16mm f/2.8 R LM WR — 12–24mm equivalent at f/2.8 — is on Fujifilm's 40MP list but weighs 805g (1.77 lb); the Fujifilm XF 8mm f/3.5 R WR frames like 12mm in a 215g (7.6 oz) prime.
Best travel & video lens: Fujifilm XF 18-120mm f/4 LM PZ WR

On the X-T5: 1017g (2.24 lb)
27–183mm at a constant f/4, 460g (1.01 lb), weather-sealed. "PZ" means a motorised power zoom, and a constant aperture keeps exposure the same as you zoom — both useful for video. The X-T5 records 6.2K30p, 4K60p oversampled, 1080p240.

If one lens has to do everything, two superzooms reach 450mm equivalent. The Sigma 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS Contemporary (Fuji X) starts wider (24mm, the widest start of any superzoom in our X-mount data) and is dust- and splash-resistant, at 615g (1.36 lb); the Tamron 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD (Fuji X) starts at 27mm, at 620g (1.37 lb) and $649. Both have optical stabilisation. The Sigma focuses close enough for 0.5× magnification. We don't list a launch price for the Sigma: we couldn't confirm Sigma's official US list price.
Best telephoto: Fujifilm XF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 R LM OIS WR

70–300mm (107–457mm equiv.)f/4–5.6580g (1.28 lb)132.5mm (5.2 in) long$749On Fujifilm's 40MP list
On the X-T5: 1137g (2.51 lb)
107–457mm equivalent at 580g (1.28 lb) and $749, with optical stabilisation, weather-sealed. For a constant f/2.8, the Fujifilm XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR, 76–213mm equivalent, is also on the list, at 995g (2.19 lb) and $1,599.
For wildlife and sports
Fujifilm rates the X-T5 at about 15fps with the mechanical shutter, and about 20fps with the electronic shutter in a 1.29× crop (which narrows the framing further). For reach beyond the 70-300mm, Fujifilm's own options are the Fujifilm XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR, 152–609mm equivalent at 1375g (3.03 lb), and the Fujifilm XF 150-600mm f/5.6-8 R LM OIS WR, 229–914mm at 1605g (3.54 lb) — both on the 40MP list, and both heavier than the 557g (1.23 lb) body, which is where the optional grip earns its place. Burst rates: Fujifilm X-T5 specifications.
Best macro: Fujifilm XF 30mm f/2.8 R LM WR Macro

30mm (46mm equiv.)f/2.8195g (6.9 oz)69mm (2.7 in) long$649
On the X-T5: 752g (1.66 lb)
Life-size (1×) at 195g (6.9 oz) and $649, weather-sealed — the lightest 1:1 macro lens in our X-mount data. For more working distance at the same magnification, the Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro — 122mm equivalent, 750g (1.65 lb) — is on Fujifilm's 40MP list.
Third-party lenses under $500
Sigma, Viltrox, TTArtisan, Samyang and others make autofocus X-mount lenses. Two things the spec sheets tell you that reviews often skip:
- Sealing: Sigma describes the 16mm, 30mm and 56mm F1.4 DC DN as having a sealed mount, and the 10-18mm as having rubber sealing at the mount — not a sealed barrel — so our "Sealed" column shows — for them rather than Yes.
- Aperture rings: Sigma's DC DN pages don't list one. Its newer 12mm and 15mm F1.4 DC do, and are described as dust- and splash-resistant: the Sigma 12mm F1.4 DC Contemporary (Fujifilm X) — 18mm equivalent, 235g (8.3 oz), $629 — and the Sigma 15mm F1.4 DC Contemporary (Fujifilm X) — 23mm equivalent, 225g (7.9 oz), $579.

Fujifilm's 40MP lens list
When Fujifilm launched the X-H2 in 2022, it published a list of XF lenses that, in its words, get maximum benefit from the 40MP sensor — its selection of lenses with high resolution from edge to edge at maximum aperture. Fujifilm added that lenses not on the list also benefit from the higher resolution. The X-T5 uses the same BSI X-Trans CMOS 5 HR sensor at 40.2MP, so the list applies to it too.
It is Fujifilm's statement, not our test. Lenses released after September 2022 — including the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II and Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 R WR — could not be on it. Of the lenses on the list, these 19 are in our database:

Questions
What does "full-frame equivalent" mean on the X-T5?
The X-T5's APS-C sensor is smaller than full frame, so a lens frames a narrower view than the same focal length would on a full-frame camera — about 1.5× narrower. A 33mm lens on the X-T5 frames roughly like a 50mm on full frame. Every table here shows both.
How much does the X-T5 weigh with a lens?
The body is 557g (1.23 lb) with battery and card, 129.5×91×63.8mm. With the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR it is 997g (2.20 lb); with the Fujifilm XF 27mm f/2.8 R WR, 641g (1.41 lb). The chart above shows every pick.
Does the X-T5 need lenses with OIS?
No — the X-T5 has in-body image stabilisation, which works with any lens. Lens OIS is an addition, not a requirement.
Do third-party lenses work on the X-T5?
Yes — Sigma, Tamron, Viltrox, TTArtisan, Samyang and others make autofocus lenses for the X mount, and they mount directly. Differences to check are the ones spec sheets state: sealing (barrel or mount only) and whether there is an aperture ring for the X-T5's dial workflow. See third-party lenses.
Which kit lens should I get?
Lightest: Fujifilm XF 16-50mm f/2.8-4.8 R LM WR, at 240g (8.5 oz). Most range: Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR, 24–122mm equivalent. Brighter at the long end: Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS, f/2.8–4. If you are buying the body alone, a constant-f/2.8 zoom — the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR II or the cheaper Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary (Fuji X) — is the step up.
How we chose
- Search intent first. The sections follow what people search alongside "X-T5 lens": which kit lens, then pancake, prime, portrait, wide, travel, video, telephoto and macro.
- Specs, not impressions. We haven't tested these lenses for this guide and don't claim one is sharper or focuses faster. The only resolution statement is Fujifilm's, quoted with its source.
- Every number comes from our database and links to the lens's full spec page. Weights are manufacturer figures; the body is weighed with battery and card: 557g (1.23 lb).
- Prices are launch prices (MSRP) in US dollars. Street prices vary and change often.
- "Lightest" and similar claims are computed against the 67 autofocus X-mount lenses we track, and are checked every time this page is rebuilt.
